“Kazu, meet Faye…”

Nino looked up to meet Ohno’s eyes and nodded as he bowed low out of respect. He could feel his hands trembling; his body shaking with so many nameless emotions he could barely suppress as Ohno reached to take his hand and threaded their fingers together.

“W-What happened?” was all Nino could say, out of so many he wanted to ask but was too afraid he would only end up asking the wrong ones. Ohno smiled and took his hand, lifting their linked hands and dropping a light kiss at the back of Nino’s palm. Nino looked up and managed to let out a hesitant smile, as Ohno took Nino’s hand and placed it against his cheek. “ – S-Satoshi, I… I’m s-sorry.. I d-didn’t know…”

Nino looked straight ahead at the name curved on the stone grave, feeling terribly embarrassed for hating her the first time he came to know about her existence… or non-existence if he was to be technical about it.

Because no matter how many times he thought about it, the fact that he hated Ohno’s wife, his dead wife, was one thing he hadn’t expected at all.

No, not really.

“She was already sick when we got married…” Ohno explained after a few moments of silence, his voice suddenly turned deep and solemn and Nino’s heart ached a little bit more. “Her parents and mine were best friends back when they were younger. My Mom told me once about them and the little funny agreement they had with them about marrying me and their daughter once we reached the right age…” Ohno continued without pausing as Nino chose to stay quiet, letting the soft brushes of Ohno’s fingers against his own calm his racing heartbeat down. “ – my Mom told me that it was just a joke between them; but a few weeks before your birthday, her family visited my parents and told my folks about her sickness.. and then THAT thing happened and so my father decided it was probably best for both families that we get married.”

Nino swallowed a growing lump in his throat, looking down at his shoes and feeling his chest tightening at the emotions bubbling helplessly inside him. He felt the warmth of Ohno’s body as the older man pressed closer against his side, their hips bumping against one another as they stood shoulder to shoulder, the heavy silence that followed made it even harder for Nino to say anything else after that little revelation.

“D-Did you know she was -”

Ohno turned and wrapped an arm around his waist, pulling him tight against him. “No..” he answered solemnly and Nino shuddered at the thought of the pain Ohno must have felt when he came to know the truth. He couldn’t imagine what he would have done if it was him. “ – that was the only thing she asked from our parents; to not reveal her sickness until she was sure she had helped me recover from everything that’s happened.”

With a slight nod, Nino couldn’t hold back a grateful smile.

“She’s a good woman,” he muttered evenly, seeing Ohno’s smile breaking at the corners of the older man’s mouth.

“She was…” Ohno answered quite fondly, his voice layered with an immeasurable amount of pride that made Nino’s inside twist in bitter understanding. Nino quietly pondered at the thought of her and Ohno, doing all the things he and Ohno used to do before and Nino felt something prickled inside him, that feeling he didn’t want to admit as it started creeping up and down his spine. Ohno then tilted his head to rest it against Nino’s shoulder and Nino mentally smacked himself when he realized that he was, actually, jealous over a dead but undoubtedly wonderful woman.

I told her about you, you know…” Ohno said a few beats after, surprising Nino out of his wits. He whipped his head and stared at Ohno in utter disbelief. “ – yeah,” Ohno said, pausing a little bit and smiling softly back at him. Nino raised an eyebrow but otherwise said nothing, only waiting for Ohno to finish what he started. Nino badly wanted to reach out and wrap the older man in his arms but stopped himself because he knew how hard it was for Ohno to say the things he had kept hidden for so long, but he did so because as hard as it was, they knew they had to discuss these things just so they could be able to start anew.

Ohno peeked at him beneath his lowered lashes and Nino could have sworn he saw something passed through the older man’s eyes, making him shudder at the intensity of the emotion he just felt through Ohno’s gaze.

“She knew I was in love with someone else,” Ohno muttered quietly, lightly tracing Nino’s knuckles with his thumb. “and I guess she was kind of shocked but thrilled at the same time when I told her I was in love with a boy…” he added playfully and Nino couldn’t hold back a smile, blushing furiously red the moment after. Imagining those words being said by Ohno was one thing, but hearing it after years of living in pain and misery was another.

He couldn’t help but feel lightheaded at the reality of it all.

Nino cleared his throat as one question floated heavily around his head; Ohno gazed at him quizzically, seeing the younger man twitched uncomfortably beside him.

“What?”

He looked down and took a deep breath.

“So does that mean y-you two n-never ~”

Ohno let out a hearty laugh, throwing his arms around Nino’s waist and kissing the back of Nino’s nape.

“Oh you! You were only worried about that?! Jeez, Kazu~”

Nino snorted and tried turning around to smack Ohno hard on the head but stopped short when Ohno leaned in and kissed him until he was panting for breath. When he opened his eyes again, Ohno looked serenely happy and contented. Nino kind of wanted to preserve that look on Ohno’s face into his memory forever.

They stayed like that for a few minutes, savoring the moment as it passed slowly in between them, with Ohno’s eyes trained on his and the older man’s mouth a breath away from his own. He saw Ohno’s lips trembled and a lone tear escaped the corners of the man’s eyes; Nino stared and stared, drinking in the sight of Ohno and the way he looked right now… a man finally free from all of the pain their love caused them at one point in their lives.

“She was a very dear friend, Kazu,” Ohno grumbled in a shaky voice and Nino did everything he could not to kiss Ohno again if only to stop those tears from spilling out from Ohno’s eyes. “She had done a lot of things for me which I knew I hardly deserve. She said she never expected me to love her the way I have loved you but for me to marry her despite the fact that we were just forced into doing it, she said she was grateful… and so she would do everything to at least repay me by bearing with me until her last breath.”

Nino gulped and reached to trace Ohno’s face lovingly. “I wish I was able to meet her, Ohchan…”

With another quiet nod, Ohno hummed his response and nosed at his jaw. Nino screwed his eyes shut, feeling Ohno’s body tremble against him.  “She told me things I badly needed to hear, helped me cope up with everything up until the day she d-died..” he continued, his voice trailing at the last syllable, then,  “ - she taught me the things I should do the next time we see each other, which I think probably wasn’t  all that good but, well…”

Nino curled his lips as soon as those words were out of Ohno’s mouth, pursing it dangerously thin the next moment after. He couldn’t believe how easily Ohno changed moods, from being undeniably sad to being all goofy and teasing on the next. Nino let out an annoyed sound at the back of his throat, throwing Ohno a glare afterwards. Ohno, on the other hand, looked vaguely smug.

“The hell it was…” Nino grumbled quietly, remembering the first time he and Ohno saw each other and how much of an ass Ohno was.

Ohno puffed his cheeks and Nino contemplated between catching him into a headlock and kissing the oxygen out of his lungs for looking so temptingly adorable.

“That was her idea, not mine!” Ohno exclaimed as he stared at Nino with his big, puppy dog eyes. “She said it was definitely a good way of knowing if you still love me. And well, it worked… right?”

Nino shook his head, a little smile gracing his lips. He didn’t know how they eventually ended up patching things between them like this, but he didn’t care anymore; not when he could finally have Ohno to himself, the same way as before.

“I don’t want to agree but I guess you’re right,” he murmured, worming one of his hands around Ohno’s neck and pulling him closer while the other moved down, trailing it’s way down the contours of Ohno’s behind. Ohno squeaked when he boldly fondled the older man’s butt and Nino smiled wickedly, flicking his tongue seductively over Ohno’s pouty lips.

Ohno grinned and nudged at his chin before he proceeded on dropping tiny, wet kisses along the line of his jaw.

“Of course I was right,” Ohno replied blithely, swaying his hips in time with the rhythm of Nino’s hand. “ – the only time that I knew I wasn’t was when I let your father~” he paused, pursing his lips when Nino dropped his gaze. “I’m sorry…”

Nino smiled and raised his face, catching Ohno’s lower lip in between his teeth as he swayed them both slowly. Ohno firmly gripped at Nino’s hips, moving with him while they stared at each other’s eyes.

“Thank you for coming back, Satoshi,” Nino mumbled gratefully, feeling that burst of unbelievable happiness bubbling inside his chest. There were still a lot of things to catch up but he knew they would need to take one step at a time to be able to do that. “Thank you for giving me one more reason to be happy…”

Ohno chuckled once and leaned in to kiss his temple, his hands making a beeline from his arms to the small of his back. “You didn’t actually think I wouldn’t come back after all of the things I told you before, right?”

Nino shook his head slightly. “Can you blame me? You got married, for crissake, and I don’t really have any plans on being the other woman…” he snorted when Ohno giggled. “or something like that..” he added, rolling his eyes.

Ohno smiled sweetly and Nino again reminded himself to breath because after all those years, he never really expected to see that one smile from Ohno ever again. “Even if Faye didn’t die, may her soul rest in peace, I already have plans on divorcing her after a few years. She knew that too and we agreed about that on the night of our marriage. So please Kazu, please believe me because~”

A slap on his butt stopped him. “Shut up,” Nino hissed, eyes started watering at the onslaught of too many emotions he could hardly suppress. “Shut up and just kiss me before I do something that we might both regret later…”

Ohno grinned, pressing his lips against Nino’s in a way so tender that Nino almost choked on the emotions slicing through him, making him shudder at the thought of finally being able to hold Ohno like this. Ohno pulled back a little, his thumb moving to brush Nino’s bottom lip, smiling softly when Nino dropped his gaze and shook his head without saying anything.

“I love you Kazu,” Ohno whispered; Nino looked up in time to see those hazel brown eyes softened, staring at Nino intensely. The impact of those words slammed it’s way into his soul, reaching up to clutch at his heart and Nino felt the sudden burst of happiness exploding deep inside him.

The honesty he saw through Ohno’s eyes made it even easier for him to believe that this, now, was the only reason for his existence and that no matter what happened in the future, he knew Ohno would still be there, holding his hand and loving him.

He smiled and nodded, leaning in once more but Ohno’s lips were already there, meeting him halfway
