Chapter 4
(2) Flashback
“Konnichiwa, Ojii-chan~”.
The old man’s head snapped up, recognition in his eyes upon hearing that lively voice who had just greeted him. Warm smile spread his tired face, and thinking that his grandson came unannounced, was indeed a very nice surprise.
“Why, isn’t this a surprise.. you haven’t visited me in a while, I thought you already forgot about me..”, the old man asked gently with a hint of accusation.
The newly arrived just smiled at that and pull the old man into a tight embrace. Yeah, it’s been a while since I’ve been here.. he thought. He was smiling wide when he released the old man, and resisted the urge to laugh out loud when he realized that he was scowling despite the fact that he was actually already there and visiting him..
“Now, now.. don’t pout too much, Ojii-chan~”, he said smiling pulling down the old man, as they were now both seated.
“I can still remember the last time you visited me.. that was exactly four months, three weeks and five days ago to be exact.. I wonder what happened?’, he answered.
“I was busy~ you know my job eats up all my time.. will you forgive me, please?”, he playfully begged.
The old man smirked but smiled afterwards. Can never really resist this kid when he goes all puppy eyes on me.. he said thoughtfully.
“So, how’s work? Been busy, right?”, the old man asked.
“Hmm. Same old, same old.”, the younger man answered, shrugging his shoulders. “By the way Ojii-chan, were’s Cecille-san?”, he asked after a while.
The older man replied by pointing his hand. The younger man’s eyes followed where it was pointed and was surprised seeing his grandfather’s wife, all smile while talking to a young lady. Curiosity immediately took over him.
“Who was that girl Cecille-san is talking to?”, he asked not tearing his gaze on the two.
The older man smiled worriedly before answering.
“That.. is a very long story..”, he answered.
He looked back at the old man, smiling as he answered back.. “Well, I do have the whole day off, so~”.
The older man nodded as he started relaying the story that happened merely two weeks ago.
“Good thing she recovered..”, the younger man said softly afterwards.
The other man nodded solemnly, thinking about the same thing. It was pretty miraculous that he went that way where he found her.. it was actually out of his usual route going home, but that night, it was like something had pushed him to take that longer route. And that’s when he found her.
“There’s just one thing though~”, the old man said gravely.
“What is it, Ojii-chan?”, the other man asked nervously.
“Well, she couldn’t remember anything that happened to her. The only thing she could remember was her name.”, he answered.
“Really? That must be horrible. And what was her name, Ojii-chan?”, the younger man asked.
“Dimple.”, the older man answered, smiling now.
It was hard talking to her the next day when she woke up, the older man remembered. She was screaming and crying.. clearly terrified of something that had happened to her. It’s a good thing his wife was able to pacify her when she realized that they speak the same language. She cried and cried afterwards, but when they asked her the reason why she was crying, she’d said she don’t know.. only that she was so afraid of something she couldn’t remember. And that’s when they found out.
“Is it okay if I talk to her?”, he asked.
“I can’t see anything wrong if you want to..”, the older man answered.
The younger man smiled and stood up. He slowly strut his way towards the two ladies, big smile plastered on his face. Cecille-san smiled warmly when she saw him. He just nodded back, his gaze fixed on the girl at the older lady’s side.
He bowed his head low as he greeted them.
“Konnichiwa~ Matsumoto Jun desu~ Hajimemashite”, he said smiling holding out his hand to the girl. And if it wasn’t for the fact that she had still visible bruises on other parts of her face, he actually thought the girl was cute. And way too young. He smiled when she shyly held out her hand to shook his.
It took him a full minute staring at her face and holding her hand, waiting for the recognition. But when she gently tugged her hand away from him, her face all red because of confusion and embarrassment, Jun wasn’t able to control himself as he chuckled.
Now, this should be interesting.
