“Is it necessary to invite him over, Grandma? I mean~”

She raised an eyebrow, wordlessly reprimanding her grandson and the man rolled his eyes in annoyance. She couldn’t quite understand why he openly showed his dislike towards Nino when she couldn’t find any fault on the man. In fact, she instantly liked him the very first time she saw him came in and shyly introduced himself. The memories of her younger brother squealing like a teenage girl while talking about this Ninomiya boy was enough for her to like Nino to destruction.

“Satoshi, be nice..” she said with a small smile. “.. your grandfather will surely get mad at you for being rude to his guests and don’t make me remind you who Ninomiya Kazunari was in your grandfather’s life..”

Satoshi groaned. “.. well as far as I know, Ninomiya is the guy who caused your brother’s death.. and I don’t think you can force me to be all good to him since he’s the one and only reason why I didn’t even have the opportunity to meet my grandfather.. now if you’ll excuse me, I think Mom would share the same sentiments.. because you’re clearly blinded with that guy’s charm..”

She smiled. “.. haven’t you read the other letters your grandfather sent him but were returned months after his death? I bet you didn’t because you obviously doesn’t know how much he adored that man..”

Satoshi seemed vaguely surprised. She took that as her cue to take out the letters she was keeping, handed them to him before she actually give them to Nino. “.. I think you better read them first and then do the honors of handing them to Ninomiya-kun since they belong to him. I hope that by reading them, you’d know how much your grandfather, my brother loved him..”

Satoshi eyed the letters in his hand and decided to give it a try as he flopped himself down the nearest couch while his grandmother proceeded on going out of the room with a satisfied smile on her face.

Dear Kazu,

I’m sorry if I’m being such a pest here. But please know that I’m really worried about you. I haven’t received any letters from you for the past months and I’m sure there’s something going on with you.. I can feel it.

Please, you don’t have to bear everything alone. I’m here for you. You can talk to me. I’ve been wanting to go and visit you but my Mom’s still insisting on letting me wait for you.

I’d probably wait a few more weeks and if you still won’t write back by that time, I’m coming to visit you. Whether you like it or not.

Love,

Satoshi.

He opened another envelop and he can feel his heart started hammering hard against his chest. His grandfather’s words surprised him, and though he knew about the friendship between him and that Ninomiya guy, Satoshi still couldn’t muster enough coherencies to understand it.

Then he went on to open almost all of it, only stopping when he read the third to the last one. By the time he finish reading it, he couldn’t breath. The need to throw himself against the stranger who came over hours before was too strong that Satoshi had to literally hold himself down to prevent himself from moving. His grandfather’s words in that particular letter had done something to him.. to his senses and he doesn’t know how he could stop it.

Why now, of all days? Why today? Why must he come over to visit today? Satoshi couldn’t help it. He’s shivering all over and he couldn’t tear his eyes off the date written underneath. There had to be some mistake! He glanced over at the calendar hanging on his wall, breathing raggedly.

Today. There’s no mistake about it.

His head was spinning as he put the letter back into it’s envelop, traces of memories he couldn’t understand started rummaging through his head. He gripped the sheets of his bed, shutting his eyes tightly as images of something particularly painful hit him that almost rendered him unconscious. He struggled to his feet, clutching the letters to his hand and went outside his room, hoping to find that Ninomiya guy before the day ended.

Nino’s mouth hanged open the moment he came inside, eyes locked on the floor as he handed the papers to him. “T-They’re for you..” he said, his own voice barely heard over the sound of Aiba munching on some food in the background.

Satoshi kept his eyes on the ground, chewing his bottom lip and struggling on keeping his expression as normal as possible though the need to see Nino’s face up close was too strong for him to handle. It was confusing enough to feel that way and Satoshi doesn’t want to complicate things further so he just handed the papers and marched all the way out the door without looking back.

He stopped though, before he reached the door and spoke without turning to face them. “.. m-make sure to read all of them..” he said. “.. e-especially the one in the y-yellow envelope..” with that, he proceeded on turning the knob and slip outside, closing the door behind him quietly.

Once his outside, he finally let go of the breath he realized he was holding, turning around to stare dumbly at the door before he had mustered enough strength to walk away.

Nino stared shock at Satoshi’s retreating back, a bit flushed by how rude the other man seemed to be towards him. “Don’t look so hurt, Nino-chan..” Aiba snorts. “.. I’m sure the new Satoshi means you no harm. He’s hot though..”

Nino made a gagging sound at the back of his throat, looking mildly mortified. “Excuse me?” he said. Aiba beams back at him, shoving a piece of curry bread into his mouth.

“.. oh, quit the diva look. Just go ahead and read them.. I’m sure it’ll worth the travel~” Aiba grinned. “.. why don’t you start reading the one in the yellow envelop? That’s probably your dead boyfriend’s last will and testament.. you know, maybe he left you a mansion and a couple of million~”

“Shut up, Masaki!” Nino grumbles, picking the yellow envelop out of the bunch of letters in his hand. “.. if you don’t have anything sensible to say, just shut up okay?”

Aiba did shut up and decided and flopping himself on the bed, fished out his phone and started texting Sho instead.

Dear Kazu,

I’m leaving home today Kazu and I’m going to see you. I don’t care what you’re doing or if you even remember me but I’m coming to see you. I don’t know why I had to wait that long to be able to do this but I’m sure of myself now.

It’s because I love you.

I love you so much, Kazunari.

And you know what? I feel like I won’t be able to see you at all this time around but I will still try. I dreamt about you last night, can you believe that? You were telling me to meet you at one exact place I don’t even know if it exists. Well, maybe not at this particular time anyway.

I know everything seemed surreal and mystifyingly impossible. But I do believe of your existence somewhere there. I am going to do this because I know that this is how it’s supposed to happen. I’m just a little bit scared but don’t worry, I’m sure we’ll see each other at the right place and in the right time.

Please know that I will love you then more than I do now.

Love,

Satoshi.

PS.

Meet me at the Tokyo Gallery Center Inc. on April 17, 2004. I will wait for you until 12 midnight.

Until then, my love.

Satoshi.

Oh. My. God.

“Oh my god..” Nino muttered out loud, his eyes quickly darting to the calendar hanging on the wall. Aiba whipped his head towards him, his brows creased in confusion.

“What?”

“..we need to get to your boyfriend’s office right now, Masaki!” Nino half shouted, running around to fetch his belongings.

“Who’s boyfriend?” Aiba asked in a daze.

Nino grabbed Aiba by the hair and tugs him out the door, the taller man hissing in pain. “.. no time for explanations!” Nino grumbled. “.. we need to leave now, oh my fucking god!”
